The Wellness Division of the Recreation & Parks department plans various wellness, cultural, educational, social and entertaining activities and classes for adults of all ages throughout the year too. From hiking groups to fitness classes to trips around the city and get-togethers at local establishments; there’s something for everyone 21 and over to enjoy! Enrich all lives, engage the community and empower the future.

Fitness Classes

Start working on a healthier you...attend as many of the City of Akron fitness classes as you want for one low price when you buy an Fitness Class Pass. You can buy a pass at any of the community centers where classes are held or at the Balch Street Fitness Center. 


 

Seniors

There are several social clubs for Seniors meeting in City of Akron Community Centers. The Clubs plan social gatherings, bring in entertainment and take day and overnight trips. Dues vary by club. Visit our website at AkronRecreationandParks.com for additional information.

The Senior Citizens Commission was formed in 2016 with the goal of making Akron a better place for people 60 and over to live. What makes your neighborhood great and what could use improvement? Come to a meeting to have your voice heard. 

 


 

Volunteer

The Recreation and Parks department works in cooperation with many different organizations throughout the year to host and provide volunteers for events such as the Akron Arts Expo, Akron Parks week, Akron Marathon and many more. So get your comfortable shoes on and join us in making Akron a better place. We may need you to spread some mulch or sign-in vendors, but whatever the assignment, we look forward to working with you!

Every July, the City of Akron Recreation and Parks department presents a fabulous two-day, outdoor, juried art show in Hardesty Park with over 100 artists, food, and great entertainment. Volunteers work in conjunction with Recreation staff to make this event a great one each year. All volunteers receive a commemorative Arts Expo t-shirt.
